Day 20: Small Wins Are Still Wins | Ascending Loops

This one is my favorite. It's really fun for me to do it. I love starting out lightly with the upstroke going around into the loop and coming down with the down stroke. It reminds me of a rollercoaster. In week three, I really see the progress, especially from last week. I did one Ascending Loop correctly. Where this week, I did 25% right and 75% incorrectly.  

One thing I've learned is that there are no short cuts in calligraphy. It's about practice, patience, and perseverance. You must practice every day for at least fifteen minutes. Patience with yourself, the shaking lines and the I almost got it to line up with the oval stroke. Perseverance for the days, you want to give up. When it feels like nothing is coming together and start doubting your ability to do calligraphy.  

I felt the same, especially after last week's meltdown where I tore up the tracing paper, broke my pen, and cried for five minutes. I was ready to take all my supplies and chuck them in the dumpster outside my building but didn't. I'm still here and now on Day 20. Practice, patience and perseverance have me now getting better and seeing improvement each day.
