Day 21: Three-Week Milestone Unlocked
It’s already been three weeks. Each week I’ve had big and small improvements on my calligraphy journey, especially with the Descending Loop. For the past 2 weeks, I couldn’t do any Descending Loop correctly tracing and freehand. They went from deformed sperm to music notes and now slowly but surely it happened. I was able to do several Descending Loops correctly. No tracing. It was all freehand. I’m very happy about.
I can say without a doubt, the one thing that help me improve my calligraphy consistently each week was recording. If you can, I recommend everyone record themselves while practicing calligraphy. The camera catches what the naked eye misses. For me, it was:
Coming down from the downstroke and as I’m transitioning into the loop, I started the loops to early.
My hand was still slight shaking when it came the mid loop connecting to the hard stroke.
I’m still going a little too fast. I need to slow down just a bit more.
Going from having zero Descending Loops right to about 10% has given me the greatest confidence boost. Not in arrogance but building from it know that I can really become a calligrapher. I can learn the art of beautiful writing. Keep practicing every day, have patience with myself in learning something new. Lastly, the perseverance to keep going because it’s happening in real time. That is the really beauty of journey of Learning Calligraphy from Absolute Zero.
Blogger’s Note: Normally, I write two posts on Sundays. My daily post and then a week in review, Lessons Learned but I felt that this week really combined both. I will only be doing this one post today
