You missed a day. Your pen will still work.
The second variation to write the letter ‘b”. Practice sheet credit goes to Becca @ thehappilyevercrafter.com
You missed a day of calligraphy practice. In my case, I’m missing about five days. I have pink eye. I have it in my left eye and was able to catch it before it spread fully into my right eye. Per the doctor, I’m out of work for the next several days. That also means no calligraphy either. I couldn’t do it right now if I wanted to. I can’t see.
Life has a way of throwing us a curve ball, when we least expect it. I can promise you that your pen has not filed a complaint. Your practice sheets are not demanding an explanation. But somehow, you’re already negotiating with yourself: “Tomorrow or when I’m back, I’ll do twice as much.”
Again, happens. Work runs long. You’re tired. Something else needs your attention. Missing a session doesn’t erase the practice you’ve already done. The tricky part is when “I missed a day” turns into “Now I’m behind,” and sitting down again starts to feel like a bigger task than it needs to be.
Try this with me: make your return easy.
Pick one familiar stroke, letter or word. Give yourself a few minutes to warm up. Let the first row be whatever it’s going to be. Then decide whether you want to continue. You can leave yesterday’s unfinished rows exactly where they are.
Learning how to return is part of building a practice habit, too. You can come back tired, a little rusty, or with only five minutes to spare. Your pen still works. Let’s give it something to do. ✒️
With ink and patience,
