Review: Show Me Your Drills

Yes, I have decided to purchase the Basic Calligraphy Course. It's six months long but since I've already pretty much completed the 30-day free class to learn the calligraphy strokes, it should take five months or so. I don't feel comfortable just yet, starting the course. I want to give myself an extra week. Work on getting better on a few strokes, Underturn Stroke and Descending Loop. From there, I can move on confidently.
Becca, the instructor, her course book and videos are very clear. They are easy to understand and follow. She gives visual examples of the common mistakes beginners make with each basic stroke. There's so much help available. You can tell she really put her time, energy and serious thought into this course. She also has a video for people who are left-handed, which I thought was fantastic.
There's an extra bonus video on how to do Calligraphy on an IPad and Apple pencil with Jillian @ loveleighloops. It's a fourteen-minute video. She gives a step-by-step tutorial to get your iPad all set up with the Show Me Your Drills workbook. You can go to their website and enter your email. They will send you a FREE brush for Procreate calligraphy.
There's a group on the app Circle, where all the students post our drills each day. I've stayed true, focused and committed. I posted my calligraphy practice drills sheet every day. It's a great community. I get support from other calligraphy newbies like me. We encourage each other. It was a very positive experience for me. The mentors are fantastic. They were active, happily answering questions, giving recommendations and critiquing our work but not in a negative way.
I don't know if I'm saying this right, but they were fair without being condescending. They shared and used their experience and knowledge freely, cheering you on to succeed. It was so nurturing. I was really impressed. I put my big girl drawers on and decided to invest in this hobby that quickly turned into more.

Bouncing & Styling: Techniques that enhance the visual appeal of lettering.
Flourishing: decorative elements added to letters to enhance their visual appeal.
Styling: the various techniques and artistic expressions used in the art of beautiful writing.
I will end today's post with this. Every practice session adds another brick to the foundation of your confidence. You may not notice the difference after one day, but over time you'll look back and see how strong you've become. Trust yourself and the work.
