Letters Y & Z: Ending The Lowercase Alphabet On A Win

After spending two days trying to figure out the letter “x,” followed by an unexpected break from calligraphy thanks to pink eye, I was ready for a drama-free letter. Enter the letter “y.” And apparently, “y” understood the assignment. I practiced it—and I nailed it. Honestly, after the letter “x,” I didn't know what to do with myself.

Since “y” went so well, I decided to keep going and try the letter “z.” And guess what? I nailed that one too. Two letters. One practice session. No drama. I'll take it! One thing I'm learning during this calligraphy journey is that not every letter has to be a struggle. Sometimes all those hours spent practicing basic strokes, fighting with difficult letters, starting over, and trying again show up when you least expect them. 

Maybe “y” and “z” were easier for me. Or maybe my hand is finally starting to understand what I've been asking it to do all this time. Either way, after what happened with “x,” I'm not asking too many questions. 😂 I'm just enjoying the win. And with that, I made it through the lowercase alphabet. From “a” all the way to “z.” 

Some letters became my favorite. Some tested every ounce of my patience. Some looked like alien languages, fishhooks, baby cobras, and things that probably shouldn't be mentioned again. But I kept going. Twenty-six letters later, I'm still here. 

Next up is Majuscules. This is where I learn to write uppercase letters. That will start on Monday, September 21, 2026.
