Day 25 — The Compound Curve Is Starting to Click

The Compound Curve is quickly becoming my favorite. The improvement from week 1 to week 4 still blows my mind. Last week I performed 20% of the compound curve correctly and 80% were incorrect. This week it was 50/50. It's been slow and consistent practice, re-watching Becca, the instructor's video on the Compound Curve that I was able to make progress and write this stroke correctly. See the practice sheet below. 

I still have some shakiness and remind myself to slow down, when I see myself going fast. I still practice twice a day for 30 minutes. There are no shortcuts in calligraphy. After looking at my practice sheet, a thought came to me. We don't have to have beautiful lettering today to become a skilled calligrapher tomorrow. Every artist starts somewhere, and every journey begins with patience. The paper is more forgiving than our inner critic. It doesn't judge our shaky lines or imperfect letters—it simply gives us another chance to pick up your pen and begin again.
